About: Multiple Intelligences
We are excited learners
When we say we are a college prep school for all kinds of great kids, we mean it.
Our school is full of smart, creative, active students who truly love to learn. Maybe that’s because we base our teaching on the Multiple Intelligences approach to learning. That means we recognize how different strengths of children affect their ability to not only learn, but retain knowledge.
Think about yourself, and think about your child for a minute. Check your strengths in these areas of the 8 Intelligences:
- Linguistic (you’re great with words, writing, reading). You might be a writer, teacher, communicator, trainer, public speaker, group leader, lyricist.
- Logical mathematical (you love strategies, puzzles, numbers). You might be a mathematician, CPA, strategic planner, scientist.
- Visual-Spatial (you love seeing things in your head, imagining full rooms empty and redone). You might be a decorator, scrapbook maker, painter, web designer, geographer, travel agent.
- Bodily-Kinesthetic (you love to dance, knit, play sports, do close work). You might be a surgeon, professional athlete, ballerina, actor, I-Phone owner, fitness expert, cyclist.
- Musical (you love to sing, dance, play instruments, write a symphony). You might be a musician of any kind, a song writer, a music lover, an I-Pod enthusiast.
- Intrapersonal (you love to think about things deeply, ponder the big questions, lead from within). You may be a journal writer, poet, philosopher, theorist, religious leader.
- Interpersonal (you love to join groups, lead them, get online to chat, create harmony). You may be an executive, the chairperson, the Blog creator, a manager, a politician.
- Naturalistic (you love to study all creatures great and small, bring home birds and put them in shoe boxes to heal, walk in the woods).
So there you have it. The good news? We all possess each of the 8 intelligences. But some are much, much stronger than others.
In our school, when students learn to demonstrate their knowledge by way of their stronger intelligences, they retain the knowledge. No mindless rote learning here!
We have lots more to tell you about a Multiple Intelligences way of thinking and learning.
